1. Get a metronome. This is a necessity, as it helps to train your brain to keep the right time signature and tempo. These are now more accessible than ever, as you can download apps onto your smartphone for free. Practise different exercises at different tempos.

2. Get a tuner. This will help your instrument to get into tune, which is really necessary to play with others in a band. Tuning your instrument will also help your brain over time to know if your instrument is out of tune.

3. Practise regularly and often. The more you practise, the more your brain develops the techniques that you wish to learn. This is called muscle memory. When you practise, don’t just practise once a week, practise several times. The least amount you should practise is 3 hours per week.
